HONG KONG: At least 65 people have died in a fire at a residential complex in northern Hong Kong, authorities confirmed on Thursday.
The blaze, which broke out late on Wednesday night, quickly engulfed multiple blocks of the multi-storey complex, leaving a scene of devastation. Local fire services reported that 51 people died at the scene, while four more succumbed to injuries in hospital.
Officials said the fire had been brought under control in four of the eight blocks, while efforts continued to extinguish flames in the remaining sections. Emergency teams remain on site, conducting search and rescue operations and supporting affected residents.
The incident has raised urgent questions about fire safety measures in high-density housing in the region, as authorities work to investigate the cause of the blaze and provide assistance to survivors and families of the victims.
