LAHORE: Punjab Information Minister Azma Bukhari has responded sarcastically to Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari’s remarks about the recent Azad Jammu and Kashmir elections. In a statement, Bukhari appeared to mock the PPP chairman, saying, “Oh, we are scared. What will happen now?”
The Punjab information minister also shared smiling stickers in response to Bilawal Bhutto’s statement.
Bilawal had described the AJK elections as “bloody” and “murderous” polls, alleging that the elections were neither free nor transparent and accusing authorities of rigging. The PPP chairman said that despite what he described as irregularities, voters had ensured the party’s victory in nine electoral constituencies.
He claimed that seats allegedly “stolen” from the PPP in Mirpur and Muzaffarabad would be recovered and promised to pursue the matter.
Bilawal said the PPP did not lose courage, would not retreat and would not leave the political field. His remarks have drawn a sarcastic response from Bukhari, adding to the political exchange between the PPP and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) following the AJK elections.
The statements reflect growing political tensions over the election results, with the PPP raising allegations concerning the conduct of the polls while the government and its political allies have rejected criticism of the electoral process.
