KARACHI: The Consulate General of Indonesia in Karachi held its annual blood donation drive in collaboration with the Afzaal Memorial Thalassemia Foundation (AMTF) on Saturday, marking Indonesia’s 81st Independence Day.

The drive was organised at the AMTF centre and brought together Indonesian diplomats, consulate staff, students and members of the Indonesian community in Karachi. Participants voluntarily donated blood to support children receiving treatment for thalassemia.

Consul General of Indonesia in Karachi Mudzakir thanked AMTF for its work in providing treatment and care to children living with thalassemia. He said the annual drive had become a meaningful tradition of cooperation between the Indonesian consulate, the Indonesian community and the foundation.
He said the initiative reflected the spirit of solidarity and friendship between Indonesia and Pakistan, adding that Independence Day was also an opportunity to serve and support local communities.
Founder and CEO of AMTF Asim Qidwai thanked the Indonesian Consulate and the Indonesian community for their continued support. He highlighted the importance of voluntary blood donation in maintaining adequate supplies for children with thalassemia, many of whom require regular transfusions.
Qidwai also welcomed the continued partnership with the Indonesian mission in raising awareness about voluntary blood donation. The event concluded with both sides reaffirming their commitment to humanitarian cooperation and encouraging greater public participation in blood donation.
The Indonesian Consulate said initiatives such as the annual drive helped strengthen people-to-people ties and humanitarian cooperation between Indonesia and Pakistan.
