KARACHI: Baqai Medical University (BMU) has become the first private medical university in Pakistan to receive the Brand of the Year Award at the 17th Brand of the Year Awards organised by the Brands Foundation.

The recognition was announced at a ceremony attended by leading figures from Pakistan’s business, corporate, academic and media sectors, where more than 150 brands from different industries were honoured for excellence, innovation and contribution to national development.
The award was given in recognition of BMU’s contributions to medical education, healthcare services, research, innovation and community engagement, which organisers said had strengthened its position as a leading institution in Pakistan’s higher education and healthcare sector.

BMU was represented at the event by Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Iftikhar Ahmed, Pro Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Kashi Fikaram, Registrar Israr Ahmed and Head of Communications, Media and Marketing Huma Parveen.
Federal Minister for Investment Qaiser Ahmed Sheikh attended the ceremony as chief guest and said that institutions contributing to economic growth and national development should be recognised and encouraged. He also appreciated the efforts of Brands Foundation CEO Sheikh Rashid Alam for promoting excellence through the awards platform.
In his remarks, Sheikh Rashid Alam highlighted the importance of moving towards an intellectual economy based on education, innovation, technology and human capital development, stressing that investment in knowledge and modern skills was essential for sustainable economic progress.
BMU officials said the award reflected the university’s commitment to academic excellence, quality healthcare, research and community service, and acknowledged the efforts of its faculty, students, alumni, researchers and staff.
The university said the recognition had set a new benchmark for private medical education in Pakistan and reinforced its reputation as a leading institution in healthcare and higher education.
