KARACHI: The Chinese Consulate-General in Karachi has donated 110 modern fumigation machines worth Rs1.7 million to the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation KMC to support disease prevention and disinfection efforts during the monsoon season.
Acting Chinese Consul General in Karachi Feng Deheng said China and Pakistan had stood by each other through difficult times over the past 75 years, building what he described as a deep and enduring friendship.
Speaking at the donation ceremony at the Chinese Consulate-General, Feng welcomed Karachi Mayor Barrister Murtaza Wahab and praised the KMC and the mayor for their continued cooperation with the Chinese side.
He said 2026 marked the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and Pakistan, adding that the relationship had remained strong despite changes in the international landscape.
Feng said the leadership of both countries attached great importance to strengthening their “ironclad” friendship. Referring to President Xi Jinping’s meeting with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif in May, he said both sides had agreed to advance the building of a China-Pakistan Community with a Shared Future while combining major projects with smaller initiatives aimed at improving people’s livelihoods.
Highlighting Karachi’s importance, Feng described the city as Pakistan’s economic, financial and cultural centre and an important link between the two countries. He noted that Karachi and Shanghai had established friendship-city relations in 1984 and had since cooperated in areas including urban development, transport planning and cultural exchanges.
He said Karachi was also home to several major China-Pakistan Economic Corridor CPEC projects, including the Port Qasim Coal-fired Power Plant, the Thar Coal Mine and Power Integration Project, the Sukkur-Multan section of the Peshawar-Karachi Motorway and the Dhabeji Special Economic Zone.
Feng also thanked Mayor Wahab for supporting celebrations marking the 75th anniversary of China-Pakistan diplomatic relations. He recalled that major Karachi landmarks, including the KMC building, had been illuminated in Chinese red on May 21.
During the ceremony, the Chinese consulate formally handed over the fumigation machines to the KMC. Feng said the equipment would help the city strengthen environmental disinfection and respond to the increased risk of seasonal infectious diseases during the rainy season.
He said China attached great importance to healthcare and the well-being of Karachi’s residents, describing the donation as a practical initiative reflecting the two countries’ longstanding friendship and mutual support.
Feng said the Chinese Consulate-General would continue promoting people-to-people cooperation and supporting initiatives that benefited local communities.
Mayor Murtaza Wahab thanked the Chinese Consul General and the government of China for providing the 110 latest fumigation machines ahead of the monsoon season. He said the equipment would help the KMC carry out fumigation and disinfection across the city.
