ISLAMABAD: Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar said on Wednesday that the first anniversary of Marka-e-Haq had served as a reminder of Pakistan’s unity, military resolve and diplomatic posture during last year’s confrontation with India, describing the episode as a defining chapter in the country’s recent history.
Addressing the occasion to mark the anniversary, Dar said the events surrounding Marka-e-Haq had gone beyond symbolism and continued to resonate as a national moment shaped by sacrifice, discipline and collective determination. He paid tribute to members of the armed forces and civilians alike, saying the country had demonstrated cohesion at a time of heightened regional tension.
The deputy prime minister recalled that Pakistan had responded with what he described as “calm resolve and moral clarity” after aggression had been imposed upon the country in 2026. He said the government, led by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, had pursued a measured and restrained course, guided by principles of self-defence rather than escalation.
Referring to Operation Bunyan-ul-Marsoos, Dar said the military campaign had represented both a strategic and political response carried out under international law. He stated that Pakistan had exercised its right to self-defence in accordance with the UN Charter and had targeted only military installations linked to the aggressor state. The operation, he added, had been conducted under the leadership of then General Asim Munir, who now serves as Field Marshal and Chief of Defence Forces.
Dar also praised the role of the Pakistan Air Force, saying that under Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmad Babar Sidhu it had achieved significant operational successes during the conflict. He said multiple Indian fighter aircraft had been downed and strategic military targets neutralized, while the Pakistan Navy, under Admiral Naveed Ashraf, had remained on full operational alert to counter any maritime threat.
Concluding his message, the deputy prime minister urged the nation to reject division and work collectively towards a peaceful and prosperous future, saying the spirit of Marka-e-Haq continued to live on in the country’s national consciousness.
