MEHAR: A protest demonstration entered its second consecutive day outside the National Press Club in Mehar as demonstrators demanded the arrest of suspects accused of shooting and critically injuring a laborer earlier this week.
The protest was led by the injured man’s brother, primary school teacher Habib-ur-Rehman Memon, along with PTALAF Dadu District General Secretary Jameel Aftab Jatoi, Jamiat Ahl-e-Sunnat leader Hafiz Manzoor Chandio, and other supporters, who chanted slogans calling for justice.
Addressing the gathering, Habib-ur-Rehman Memon alleged that four days ago, Riyaz Chandio, his sons Sadaqat Chandio, Nazakat Chandio and Kashif Chandio, along with other suspects, attacked the family’s timber shop and opened fire on his brother, Asadullah Memon, leaving him critically injured.
He said the victim is currently receiving treatment at a hospital in Larkana. He said a case had been registered at Mehar B-Section Police Station but claimed that no action had yet been taken against the accused.
He further alleged that the suspects had been threatening and harassing the family to withdraw the case, raising concerns for their safety and property.
Jameel Aftab Jatoi said teachers across Dadu district stood in solidarity with their colleague and called on police to arrest all those named in the case. He urged authorities to ensure justice for the affected family.
The protesters appealed to the Inspector General of Police Sindh, the Deputy Inspector General of Police Hyderabad and the Senior Superintendent of Police Dadu to ensure the immediate arrest of those allegedly involved in the shooting. They warned that the protest campaign would be expanded if no action was taken.
The allegations made by the protesters have not been independently verified, and police have not publicly responded to the claims in the statement.
