ISLAMABAD: Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir visited the National Emergencies Operation Centre (NEOC) and reviewed Pakistan’s preparedness and coordinated response plans for possible monsoon-related disasters.
According to the military’s media wing, ISPR, the field marshal was briefed by the chairman of the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) on the country’s emergency response framework, operational capabilities and technology-based mechanisms being used to manage natural disasters.
During the visit, officials highlighted the NDMA’s efforts to improve disaster preparedness through modern systems, better coordination and timely response strategies. The briefing focused on strengthening national capacity to deal with emergencies, particularly during the monsoon season when floods, landslides and other climate-related challenges pose serious risks.
Field Marshal Munir said protecting human lives and safeguarding critical national infrastructure must remain the top priority during any emergency situation. He stressed the importance of swift action, effective planning and close coordination among all relevant institutions.
The field marshal said the armed forces were fully prepared to assist civil authorities and the NDMA in rescue, relief and rehabilitation efforts whenever required. He added that cooperation between civilian and military institutions was essential for managing large-scale emergencies effectively. He appreciated the NDMA’s efforts to enhance Pakistan’s disaster management capabilities and improve preparedness against natural calamities.
According to ISPR, Munir also emphasized the need for maintaining continuous readiness, strengthening institutional coordination and ensuring a rapid response mechanism to protect communities during challenging situations. The visit reflected the continued focus on improving national resilience against climate-related disasters.
