DERA ISMAIL KHAN: The former Ratta Kalachi Afghan Refugee Camp has been completely demolished as part of an initiative by the district administration to reclaim government land and ensure its proper use for public purposes.
The camp, which had remained vacant following the voluntary repatriation of Afghan refugees, was dismantled under the direct supervision of the Assistant Commissioner (Revenue). Heavy machinery was deployed to demolish all buildings, temporary structures, and other constructions. Security and administrative personnel were present throughout to ensure the operation proceeded without incident.
Officials confirmed that the demolition was carried out in phases and faced no resistance. The camp had been established on government-owned land, and its continued existence following the refugees’ departure was deemed neither legally nor administratively justified.
In parallel, the administration has issued a one-month deadline to local tribes occupying nearby government land to vacate the area. A formal agreement has been reached with tribal elders stipulating that the land must be fully vacated by 15 January 2026, with warnings that illegal occupation beyond this date will not be tolerated.
District authorities stated that the reclamation of state land aims to prevent unauthorized use and facilitate development projects for public benefit. Residents welcomed the administration’s measures, expressing hope that the reclaimed land will be utilised for regional development, public infrastructure, or welfare initiatives that serve the community of Dera Ismail Khan.
