KHAIRPUR: The central leadership of IBA 40+ Waiting Teachers (PST/JEST – Male and Female) has said that their peaceful constitutional and democratic struggle for justice had entered its 392nd day, demanding immediate recruitment against available vacancies and implementation of merit-based decisions.
Addressing a press conference at Khairpur Press Club, leaders including Ayaz Magsi, Atta-ur-Rehman Shaikh, Amjad Ali, Noor Muhammad Gopang and Munawar Sohu said thousands of qualified young men and women across Sindh, along with their families, had been struggling for more than a year for their right to employment, merit and quality education.
They said the candidates had raised their concerns through peaceful protests, long marches from Karachi to Islamabad, hunger camps, legal proceedings and democratic forums, but thousands of deserving candidates continued to remain deprived of what they described as their lawful rights.
The leaders said the Special Committee of the Sindh Assembly had been constituted specifically to address the grievances of IBA 40+ Waiting Teachers. They added that assurances were also given by Pakistan Peoples Party leader Jameel Ahmed Soomro and Sindh Assembly Speaker Syed Awais Qadir Shah that the matter would be considered.
However, they said the meeting held on July 10, 2026, ended with a decision that did not address the demands of the waiting candidates, leaving thousands of young people disappointed and further weakening their confidence in the principles of merit and equal opportunity.
The leadership said educated women of Sindh had participated in the movement despite extreme weather conditions and hardships, describing their struggle as not only a demand for employment but also a fight for dignity, education and the future of the province.
They said several legal cases related to the recruitment process were currently pending before the Sindh High Court, including CP-251 Karachi High Court, D-84, D-1431 Sukkur High Court and D-1760 Hyderabad High Court. They expressed hope that judicial proceedings and principles of merit, transparency, fairness and the rule of law would be respected.
The waiting teachers demanded immediate recruitment of all eligible IBA 40+ PST/JEST candidates against existing vacant posts and STR-based SNE allocations. They also called upon the Sindh Assembly’s Special Committee to fulfil its original mandate by presenting fair and merit-based recommendations.
They demanded that thousands of qualified young men and women should not be subjected to prolonged uncertainty and delays, urging authorities to announce a transparent and lawful decision on August 5, 2026.
The leadership appealed to Pakistan Peoples Party Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah, Education Minister Syed Sardar Ali Shah, Law Minister Zia-ul-Hassan Lanjar, Sindh Assembly Speaker Syed Awais Qadir Shah, members of the Special Committee and elected representatives to uphold merit and justice by ensuring recruitment against available vacancies.
They said their movement was peaceful and their demands were constitutional, adding that they would continue their democratic struggle until their legitimate rights were recognised.
The leaders said they hoped the Sindh government would announce a fair and transparent decision on August 5. They warned that if their demands were not addressed, they would continue peaceful democratic protests, including a sit-in outside Bilawal House Karachi, in accordance with their constitutional right to peaceful assembly.
