SUKKUR: The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has launched a probe into alleged illegal liver transplants following a kidney transplant scandal at GIMS Hospital in Khairpur. The FIA Crime and AHT Circle, Sukkur, initiated an inquiry into allegations of illegal and commercial human organ transplants at GIMS Hospital, Gambat.
According to an official letter No. FIA/CC/SUK/ENQ. NO. 10/2026/ACC/7976-77 dated August 12, 2026, the FIA asked the Director of GIMS, Gambat, to submit attested records relating to two liver transplant cases: M.R. No. 96707 – Ahmed Moiaz and M.R. No. 72661 – Saima Khaliq.
The FIA sought nine categories of documents, including the notification or order of the Evaluation/Ethics Committee for Liver Transplant, names and contact details of committee members, details of the transplant surgeon and team, minutes and recommendations of the evaluation committee, certificates signed by the authorized transplant surgeon on Forms 2, 4 and 5, and donor and recipient certificates signed on Form 10.
It also sought HLA test reports to confirm the donor-recipient relationship, documentary proof of the relationship, CNICs, Family Registration Certificates and birth certificates, as well as other identification documents of donors and recipients, including driving licences, passports and bank account details.
The Director of GIMS was directed to submit the complete attested record through a senior officer to the Office of the Additional Director FIA Sukkur by August 20, 2026, for the inquiry.
The letter stated that the inquiry was being conducted against employees of GIMS, Gambat, and others over allegations of illegal and commercial organ transplantation. The FIA Sukkur was already investigating the alleged kidney transplant, while a separate inquiry into alleged liver transplants had now been initiated at GIMS, Khairpur.
