ISLAMABAD: Three Chinese nationals arrested in a case involving the alleged illegal trade in human organs have approached the Islamabad High Court seeking post-arrest bail.
The petitions were heard by Islamabad High Court Justice Arbab Muhammad Tahir. The three accused — Li Gang Chai, Ping Fei Guo and Wang Bao — had previously been denied bail by the trial court. A case against them has been registered with the Federal Investigation Agency’s Corporate Crime Circle.
Appearing on behalf of the petitioners, Barrister Yawar Qureshi told the court that petitions involving similar cases were already pending before another bench. He requested that the three cases also be transferred to the same bench for hearing.
Justice Arbab Muhammad Tahir noted that the other judge, Justice Muhammad Azam Khan, was currently on summer vacation and transferring the cases could delay the proceedings by about a month.
Following the lawyer’s insistence, the court accepted the request and sent the case file to the Chief Justice’s Office for a decision on the proposed change of bench.
The court did not decide the bail applications on merits at this stage.
