TANDO ALLAHYAR: Jamaat-e-Islami organized a sit-in outside a Meezan Bank branch in Tando Allahyar on Friday as part of a nationwide protest against rising petroleum prices, drawing a large crowd that included women.
The demonstration was held in response to a call by Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan chief Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman. Protesters carried placards and banners and chanted slogans against the government’s economic policies, demanding immediate relief from inflation.
Addressing the gathering, Jamaat-e-Islami Sindh General Secretary Muhammad Yousaf said soaring fuel prices, electricity tariffs and the rising cost of essential goods had placed an increasing burden on households.
He claimed that inflation had made it difficult for many families to meet their basic needs and called on the government to significantly reduce petroleum prices.
Other speakers said continued increases in fuel prices had intensified inflation, leaving low- and middle-income families under growing financial pressure.
They urged the government to reverse what they described as anti-people economic policies and introduce measures to ease the cost of living. The speakers warned that if their demands were not met, the party would widen its protest campaign.
Among those who addressed the sit-in were Jamaat-e-Islami District Tando Allahyar Ameer Asif Yasin, Tando Allahyar Ameer Rao Javed Ali, Deputy District Ameer Deedar Hussain Bahrani, District General Secretary Ashiq Hussain Khanzada, Deputy District Ameer Muhammad Yunus Qaimkhani, Jamaat-e-Islami leaders Abdul Hafeez Leghari and Hammadullah Sanheiro, Sindh Anjuman Tajran President Waqar Hameed Memon, Nadeem Ishaq Khan Qaimkhani, and Tajran Ittehad Vice President Tawfiq Qaimkhani.
