QUETTA: A wave of violence has hit Balochistan’s Mastung district, where separate attacks left a Sessions Judge, his security guard and three passengers dead, prompting authorities to impose an indefinite curfew in Khad Kocha and launch a major security operation.
According to police officials, Sessions Judge Abdul Hakim Kakar and his gunman were attacked while travelling from Quetta to the Sessions Court in Mastung.
Unidentified assailants opened fire on their vehicle near the railway crossing on Wali Khan Bypass, killing Judge Kakar and his security guard at the scene. Additional Sessions Judge Tariq Lashari was also injured in the attack and is receiving medical treatment at a hospital.
Following the attack, police, Levies personnel and other law enforcement agencies reached the area, sealed off the site and launched a search operation. Officials said investigations were under way to determine the motive behind the attack, while no group has so far claimed responsibility.
In a separate incident in the Groh area of Sub-Tehsil Khad Kocha, armed attackers opened fire on a passenger coach, killing three passengers and injuring three others.
Police said the bodies of the victims and one injured passenger were shifted to Shaheed Nawab Ghaus Bakhsh Raisani Memorial Hospital, while two injured passengers were taken to Manguchar Hospital for treatment.
Amid the worsening security situation, the Balochistan Home Department imposed an indefinite curfew in Khad Kocha from 9pm until further notice.
Home Department spokesperson Babar Yousafzai said residents would not be allowed to leave their homes during the curfew and all unnecessary movement had been restricted. He urged people to cooperate with security agencies and warned that legal action would be taken against those violating the restrictions.
