KARACHI: The District South Police Karachi carried out a raid on an illegal gutka manufacturing unit in Delhi Colony, recovering a large quantity of hazardous raw material and prepared gutka, officials said on 20 April 2026.
Acting on the orders of SSP District South, Mahzoor Ali, Frere police conducted the operation following a tip-off and raided what officials described as a mini factory producing gutka and mawa. Police said a large quantity of harmful gutka was recovered from the site, which poses serious risks to public health.
According to details, around 230 kilograms of raw and processed betel nut mixed with chemicals, along with 90 kilograms of packing material, were seized during the raid. One suspect, Shafiq son of Allah Yar, was arrested on the spot, while four others managed to escape from the scene.
The fleeing suspects were identified as Haji Abbas, Adnan, Sadiq Cobra and Muzammil, also known as Maji. Police said raids were being carried out to arrest them. A case was registered at Frere police station under Section 8(i)(ii) of the Sindh Gutka and Mawa Act 2019 against the arrested and absconding suspects.
Police said further investigation into the case was ongoing.
