KARACHI: Karachi’s main MA Jinnah Road will remain closed to traffic during the central Chehlum procession on Tuesday, with traffic police announcing a comprehensive diversion plan to manage vehicle movement across the city.
According to Karachi Traffic Police, vehicles travelling from Saddar towards Tower will be diverted via Preedy Street and II Chundrigar Road. Diversions will also be in place around Lighthouse, Empress Market, Regal Chowk and Tibet Centre.
Traffic approaching from Shahrah-e-Quaideen will be redirected towards Kashmir Road and People’s Chowrangi. Vehicles coming from Korangi, Landhi and the National Highway will be diverted to the Super Highway via Rashid Minhas Road.
Motorists travelling from Nazimabad will be able to reach their destinations through Lasbela, Garden and Nishtar Road, while traffic from Liaquatabad will be diverted from Lasbela Chowk towards Nazimabad No 10.
Traffic from Hasan Square will be routed through Shahrah-e-Quaideen, Society Light Signal and Teen Hatti to Lasbela Chowk. Vehicles arriving via Shahrah-e-Faisal will be diverted through Society Light Signal and Sher Shah Suri Road. Drivers travelling from Jamshed Road towards Gurumandir have been advised to use Bahadur Yar Jang Road or Soldier Bazaar Road.
Heavy vehicles will not be allowed to enter the city from 10am until the conclusion of the procession. Parking of all kinds will be prohibited along the procession route, and illegally parked vehicles will be removed immediately. The central Chehlum procession is scheduled to begin at 9am on Tuesday, 4 August, from Nishtar Park.
