SUKKUR: The Election Commission in Khairpur has launched a fresh campaign to increase women’s voter registration, with District Election Commissioner Naeem-ur-Rehman Jalbani urging eligible women to register without delay and take part in the democratic process.
Chairing a meeting on women’s voter registration, Jalbani stressed the importance of improving female participation in elections. He said all men and women aged 18 years and above should obtain their Computerised National Identity Cards (CNICs) and ensure their names are included in the electoral rolls.
He announced that the Election Commission would launch a Mobile Registration Van (MRV) campaign in August to facilitate voter registration for eligible students at schools and colleges across the district.
Jalbani said the Election Commission would also seek the support of Union Council general councillors to encourage voter registration, particularly among women, in their respective communities.
Referring to previous efforts, he highlighted the Faizabad registration campaign as a successful initiative that resulted in a significant increase in the number of registered women voters.
Speaking at the meeting, District Population Health Officer Dr Mahesh said 75 health facilities operating under the Mamta Programme across Khairpur would also assist in facilitating women’s registration and voter enrolment.
He added that arrangements would also be made to help women obtain B-Forms for their children who do not yet possess the required registration documents, enabling families to complete essential documentation more easily.
Officials said relevant data would be shared with the Election Commission to simplify and accelerate the voter registration process, particularly for women and first-time young voters.
The meeting was attended by Human Rights Commission member Deepa Kumari, District Population Health Officer Dr Mahesh, Assistant Director NADRA Syed Ali Mehdi, Information Officer Amanullah Channa, Government Women’s College lecturers Tahira Panhwar and Sajida Memon, Union Council General Councillor Parveen Naz, and representatives from various government departments.
The Election Commission said the campaign is part of ongoing efforts to improve electoral participation and ensure that more women are able to exercise their constitutional right to vote.
