KOHAT: The Kohat Chamber of Commerce and Industry has welcomed the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government’s plan to establish a goat breeding farm in Kohat district, describing it as an important step towards strengthening the livestock sector and supporting the local economy.
During a meeting with elected representatives from Kohat, Chamber President Rashid Paracha and other office-bearers said the project was the result of the joint efforts of Information Minister Shafi Jan, Law Minister Aftab Alam, District Development Advisory Committee (DDAC) Chairman and Member of the Provincial Assembly Daud Shah Afridi, and Member of the National Assembly Shehryar Afridi.
They said the initiative would benefit livestock farmers while creating new opportunities for investment, employment and economic growth across the region.
The chamber noted that Kohat and the southern districts possess significant potential in the livestock and agriculture sectors. However, it stressed that fully realising this potential would require greater investment in modern research, improved breeding practices, farmer training, value addition and private sector participation.
According to the chamber, the proposed breeding farm would improve the availability of high-quality livestock, increase milk and meat production, enhance farmers’ productivity and strengthen the rural economy.
The chamber also urged the provincial government to accelerate work on complementary projects, including food processing, cold storage facilities, veterinary services and agricultural value chains, to maximise Kohat’s economic potential and support sustainable regional development.
