HANGU: The Kohat Peace Accord aimed at restoring stability in Kurram district will remain fully in force, with the district administration warning that strict legal action will be taken against anyone attempting to undermine the peace process through misinformation or inflammatory social media campaigns.
Kohat Division Commissioner Syed Moatasim Billah Shah said the agreement would be upheld under all circumstances and stressed that efforts to spread false information or incite tensions would not be tolerated.
The commissioner visited Kurram district from 22 to 27 July, accompanied by civil and military officials, where he inspected Parachinar, Sadda and border areas. During the visit, he held separate meetings with tribal elders, community leaders and representatives of various groups, while also chairing a series of jirgas to review progress on implementing the Kohat Peace Accord and the local peace agreement between the Pewar and Ali Zai communities.
Participants at the jirgas reaffirmed their commitment to implementing the agreement in full, saying lasting peace, protection of lives and property, and the restoration of normal life could only be achieved through dialogue, mutual trust and cooperation.
Speaking to reporters in Sadda, Commissioner Shah said certain individuals were attempting to spread baseless rumours and provocative content on social media to create fear and fuel tensions among local communities.
He warned that authorities would take legal action against anyone found circulating misinformation or material intended to disrupt the peace process.
Tribal elders also rejected rumours surrounding the peace accord and pledged their continued support for the district administration’s efforts to maintain stability. They reaffirmed their commitment to working together to strengthen peace and harmony across the region.
The commissioner said sustainable peace could only be achieved through dialogue, jirgas and the full implementation of every provision of the agreement. He added that the district administration remained in close coordination with relevant institutions and tribal leaders to ensure the peace process continued effectively.
During his visit, Commissioner Shah also carried out a surprise inspection of Sadda Bazaar, where he reviewed the prices and quality of essential commodities, sanitation arrangements and the expiry dates of food products.
He later visited Sadda Jail to inspect facilities for inmates and directed prison authorities to promote rehabilitation by providing sports equipment and quality reading materials for prisoners.
