KHYBER: Faisal Karim Kundi visited the Afghan refugee transit camp in Landi Kotal and reviewed facilities being provided to those awaiting repatriation.
During the visit, officials including representatives of the Provincial Disaster Management Authority, National Database and Registration Authority, Federal Investigation Agency, customs authorities, the deputy commissioner of Khyber and Rescue 1122 briefed the governor on arrangements at the site.
Officials said special measures had been put in place at the Landi Kotal transit point to ensure the dignified return of Afghan refugees, adding that thousands were crossing back into Afghanistan each day through the Torkham border in a phased process.
Speaking to the media, Kundi said there was full coordination between federal and provincial governments on the issue of repatriation. Responding to a question about the closure of the Pakistan-Afghanistan border, he said Pakistan was extending all possible assistance to Afghan citizens while also taking necessary steps in view of security concerns to ensure law and order in the country.
The governor met Afghan refugees at the camp, listened to their concerns and directed relevant authorities to provide maximum facilities to families awaiting return so that the process could be completed in an organised and dignified manner.
He added that Pakistan had hosted Afghan refugees for a long time and that all possible steps were being taken to ensure their respectful return.
