KUWAIT CITY: Kuwait approved a defence cooperation agreement with Pakistan, marking a significant step towards expanding and formalizing military collaboration between the two countries.
According to Arab media reports, the agreement established a structured framework for cooperation in key defence areas, including military training, exchange of expertise and the development of joint strategies aimed at strengthening bilateral security relations.
The agreement would provide both countries with a formal mechanism to enhance coordination between their armed forces and deepen existing defence ties. It reflected the longstanding relationship between Pakistan and Kuwait, which has been built on mutual trust, close cooperation and shared interests in regional peace and security.
Under the agreement, a Pakistan-Kuwait Joint Committee would be formed to supervise its implementation. The committee would comprise representatives from both countries and would hold annual meetings to review progress, evaluate ongoing cooperation and identify new areas for partnership.
Officials and analysts described the development as another important move in Pakistan’s expanding defence engagement with Gulf countries. In recent years, Islamabad has focused on strengthening security partnerships with regional allies, with cooperation extending beyond traditional military relations to include training programs, strategic consultations and institutional coordination.
Analysts said enhanced defence cooperation with Gulf partners could provide opportunities for improved military training, greater exchange of operational experience and stronger coordination on regional security matters. Pakistan and Gulf states have maintained defence relations for several decades, with military cooperation existing alongside strong economic, diplomatic and cultural ties. Pakistani personnel have historically contributed to training and security cooperation initiatives with several Gulf countries.
The latest agreement with Kuwait highlighted the efforts of both countries to expand their partnership and develop a more comprehensive framework of cooperation. It came at a time when regional security challenges required stronger coordination and closer engagement among friendly nations.
