MEHAR: Lawyers staged a protest inside the Mehar court against notices issued by the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency to Qaumi Awami Tehreek leader Ayaz Latif Palijo and Jeay Sindh Mahaz chairman Riaz Chandio, as well as what they described as an alleged attempt to register cases against the two leaders.
The protest was organised on the call of the Mehar Bar Association. Lawyers chanted slogans against the notices and opposed proposals or calls for the division of Sindh.
They described Palijo as a voice of Sindh and said such actions could not silence political expression. They also warned against any attempt to divide Sindh, saying the province belonged to its people.
The lawyers demanded that the notices be withdrawn immediately and called on the authorities to refrain from any coercive or retaliatory action against Palijo, Chandio or other citizens.
Mehar Taluka Bar Association president Pir Bakhsh Solangi and general secretary Dad Muhammad Magsi said the bar remained committed to the rule of law, the supremacy of the 1973 Constitution and the protection of the rights of lawyers and citizens.
They specifically condemned a call-up notice issued to Palijo by the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency, Karachi, bearing reference number NCCIA/KHI/ENQ-1399/2026 and dated 7 August 2026.
The bar leaders described the notice as an attempt to intimidate a political leader and said the alleged use of cyber laws to target dissent and political viewpoints raised concerns over fundamental rights and freedom of expression.
They demanded immediate withdrawal of the notice and said they stood in solidarity with Palijo, reaffirming their support for the rule of law, freedom of expression and democratic values.
