MOSCOW: Russia’s Defence Ministry said Ukrainian forces launched a large-scale overnight drone attack across Russian regions, with air defence systems destroying 379 drones. The attacks left at least eight people dead and 86 others injured, according to Russian officials.
The Russian Defence Ministry said the drones were intercepted over several regions, including Belgorod, Bryansk, Kursk, Smolensk, Ryazan, Kaluga, Tula, Tambov, Oryol, Lipetsk, Tver, Pskov, Voronezh, Rostov, Volgograd, Leningrad, Vladimir, the Moscow region, Krasnodar and Crimea, as well as over the Sea of Azov and the Black Sea.
Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said nearly 370 drones were heading towards the Moscow region overnight but were destroyed by air defence systems. In Russia’s Tambov region, a Ukrainian drone strike targeted a Wildberries logistics centre, killing seven people and injuring 25 others.
Acting regional governor Yevgeny Pervyshov said 22 injured people were receiving treatment in hospitals, while eight were in critical condition. He said the fire that broke out at the warehouse after the attack had been brought under control.
Officials said the victims included four men and three women, while those injured comprised 16 men and nine women. Further drone strikes were reported in the Moscow region’s cities of Noginsk and Elektrostal. Governor Andrei Vorobyov said a drone crash in Noginsk caused a fire at an oil storage facility.
Twenty-two women and seven children were evacuated from a nearby maternity hospital as a precaution. A Wildberries warehouse in Elektrostal was also damaged after a drone strike triggered a fire, which was later extinguished.
