KARACHI: Karachi has been placed under a rain emergency as authorities intensify efforts to manage waterlogging and prepare for further wet weather, Mayor Barrister Murtaza Wahab said after reviewing the city’s post-rain situation.
During a citywide inspection on Friday, the mayor assessed drainage operations, the performance of pumping machinery and field staff, and the progress of ongoing development projects. He directed officials to deploy all available resources to provide maximum relief to residents.
Mr Wahab said the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) had placed its Municipal Services and Engineering Department on high alert, with all available machinery mobilised to ensure the swift removal of rainwater from affected areas.
He added that City Wardens would remain stationed on major roads and other sensitive locations to assist motorists and help maintain traffic flow. Preparations for the monsoon season have been completed, while the cleaning of storm-water drains has been further accelerated to strengthen the city’s emergency response.
The mayor also inspected development schemes across Karachi and instructed the relevant authorities to complete projects nearing completion before the next spell of rain.
Reaffirming the city’s commitment to public service, Mr Wahab said the KMC was fully prepared to respond to emergencies and would continue supporting residents during adverse weather conditions.
