KARACHI: Karachi Mayor Barrister Murtaza Wahab has handed over newly acquired heavy vehicles to various departments of the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) in a move aimed at improving operational efficiency and strengthening civic services across the city.
The handover ceremony was attended by Municipal Commissioner KMC Abrar Jaffer, Financial Advisor Gulzar Ali Abro, senior KMC officials and other officers.
Two articulated boom lift vehicles were provided to the Electrical and Mechanical Department, while a truck was handed over to the Anti-Encroachment Department to support its field operations.
Speaking at the ceremony, Mayor Wahab said modern machinery and heavy equipment were essential for improving urban management and ensuring better delivery of municipal services. He said the addition of the new vehicles would help departments respond more quickly and effectively to public needs.
The mayor said KMC was making better use of its own resources and development funds to improve civic facilities. He added that improved financial management had helped increase the corporation’s revenue, allowing more resources to be directed towards public welfare projects and addressing urban challenges.
He said KMC was moving towards greater institutional self-reliance by efficiently utilizing available resources, which had contributed to improved performance across different departments.
Barrister Wahab added that the new vehicles would strengthen the technical capabilities of the Electrical and Mechanical Department and improve the efficiency and organization of anti-encroachment operations.
He said the introduction of modern equipment reflected KMC’s continued commitment to upgrading municipal services and improving facilities for the people of Karachi.
