ISLAMABAD: The Emergency Response Committee (ERC) reviewed the country’s preparedness and response measures during the ongoing monsoon rains, as authorities assessed the impact of recent weather-related incidents and ongoing relief efforts.
The meeting was held in Islamabad and chaired through a video link by Federal Minister for Planning, Development and Special Initiatives Professor Ahsan Iqbal. Senior officials briefed the committee on the latest situation arising from heavy rainfall and related incidents across different parts of the country.
The committee was presented with a detailed overview of the damage caused by the recent monsoon spell, including human casualties, infrastructure losses and the challenges faced by affected communities. Officials also shared updates on rescue operations, relief activities and progress made in rehabilitation efforts in areas hit by the rains.
During the meeting, the committee examined the measures taken by federal ministries, provincial governments and district administrations to respond to the emergency situation. It reviewed coordination between different departments and assessed the effectiveness of ongoing efforts to provide assistance to affected populations.
The committee appreciated the efforts of government institutions and emergency response teams involved in rescue and relief operations. Officials acknowledged the work of field teams engaged in evacuating stranded people, delivering relief supplies and restoring essential services in affected areas.
The ERC stressed the importance of continued coordination among all stakeholders to deal with the challenges posed by the monsoon season. Authorities said that monitoring of vulnerable areas would continue and response measures would remain active to protect communities from further risks.
The meeting came as Pakistan continued to face seasonal monsoon challenges, with disaster management authorities maintaining close coordination with provincial administrations to respond to weather-related emergencies.
