KARACHI: National Accountability Bureau (National Accountability Bureau) has launched a major enforcement action against Bahria Town, freezing thousands of acres of land in Karachi and surrounding areas amid allegations of illegal land acquisition and misuse of state property.
According to official documents, implementation teams acting on directives from NAB Karachi’s Director General carried out coordinated operations in Jamshoro and Malir districts, with support from local administration and police. The move included the physical takeover of disputed land and the sealing of key properties linked to the housing developer.
In one of the most high-profile actions, authorities moved to secure land in Deh Mole, Taluka Thana Bula Khan, where officials said possession was taken over Bahria Town-linked developments known as BTK-2 in Jamshoro.
Officials also confirmed the freezing of an additional 1,338 acres of land, allegedly occupied for various Bahria Town projects, including residential precincts and planned developments such as Bahria Greens and multiple numbered precincts. Authorities say this land is owned by the government of Sindh and was allegedly used without legal transfer or authorisation.
A further 3,150 acres linked to Bahria Town Karachi 2 have also been frozen under separate orders, with investigators alleging irregular transactions involving private real estate entities.
NAB has instructed all relevant authorities to prevent any third-party transactions or development activity on the affected land, effectively halting expansion and commercial use pending legal proceedings.
The bureau has already filed a reference in an accountability court in Karachi, alleging large-scale illegal conversion and misappropriation of approximately 17,672 acres of state land in Malir, with an estimated value running into hundreds of billions of rupees.
