KARACHI: A new preliminary medical report in the Mir Raza case has raised fresh questions over the police investigation, particularly the handling of evidence and apparent differences between the initial postmortem findings and samples obtained after his exhumation.
Questions have been raised over whether police negligence may have affected the investigation and whether any attempt was made to protect someone involved in the case.
One of the key issues concerns a pistol cartridge casing allegedly recovered from the scene. Investigators have been asked why the casing was not found on the first day and how it emerged eight days after the crime scene had already been cleared. Questions have also been raised over why the forensic report of the recovered casing has not yet been made public.
Mir Raza’s family has repeatedly mentioned a guesthouse located near the scene. This has also raised questions over whether the guesthouse has any connection to the case.
Police have recorded statements from 21 people, including individuals associated with the guesthouse, but questions remain over why those statements have reportedly not yet been included in the case file.
Although police say the investigation is continuing, concerns have been raised over whether any important aspect of the case has been overlooked. The latest questions emerged after a preliminary medical report based on samples obtained following Mir Raza’s exhumation was made public. According to the report, signs of injuries were found on several parts of his body.
The report states that the gunshot wound on the back of Mir Raza Ali’s body was smaller than the opening on the front, which medical experts said could indicate that the bullet entered from the rear. The report also recorded fractured ribs and multiple injuries to his head and face. A fracture and wound measuring about 12cm were found on his right thigh, while blood stains were also detected in tissues in the lower part of his body.
Geo News obtained the preliminary medical findings from samples collected after the exhumation. The latest findings reportedly differ significantly from the initial postmortem report. Evidence of a deep injury and fracture was found in Mir Raza’s jaw, while injuries were also detected to his nasal bone and different parts of his face.
Investigators said 17 samples were collected during the exhumation. Samples were also taken from Mir Raza’s parents for DNA comparison. The samples are expected to be submitted to the forensic laboratory at the University of Karachi on Monday for further examination.
After the samples were collected from different parts of the body, Mir Raza was reburied.
The latest findings are expected to add further scrutiny to the investigation and the circumstances surrounding Mir Raza’s death. The medical and forensic evidence will be crucial in determining whether his death was a suicide or homicide.
