ISLAMABAD: Pakistan and China have agreed to strengthen cooperation in immigration management, border security and institutional coordination following discussions between Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and a visiting Chinese delegation.
The delegation was led by the Director General of China’s National Immigration Administration, who held talks with the interior minister to discuss ways to improve coordination between the two countries. Both sides agreed to expand collaboration in immigration affairs and border management while accelerating efforts to finalize an agreement aimed at making immigration procedures more efficient.
Mohsin Naqvi said Pakistan was committed to maintaining strict control over illegal immigration, unlawful border crossings and smuggling activities. He said the government had adopted a zero-tolerance policy and action was being taken against individuals involved in such activities without any discrimination.
The interior minister said Pakistan valued its partnership with China and would continue expanding cooperation in areas related to land border management, seaport security and immigration administration. He added that stronger coordination between the two countries would help improve security arrangements and facilitate legitimate movement of people and trade.
Naqvi announced that a new Gilgit-Baltistan Scouts checkpoint would be established at the Khunjerab Pass to further strengthen border security. He said the measure was part of broader efforts to improve monitoring and ensure effective management of important border routes.
The Chinese delegation appreciated Pakistan’s measures to prevent illegal border crossings and control smuggling. The delegation described Pakistan’s efforts as effective and expressed willingness to further enhance cooperation between the relevant institutions of both countries.
