ISLAMABAD: Pakistan and China have agreed to strengthen cooperation in the livestock and meat export sectors as part of efforts to expand trade, improve value addition and enhance the country’s livestock industry.
The understanding was reached during a high-level meeting between Federal Minister for National Food Security and Research Rana Tanveer Hussain and a Chinese delegation. During the meeting, Rana Tanveer Hussain said Pakistan possessed vast livestock resources and had significant potential to become a major supplier of high-quality halal meat in international markets.
The minister highlighted the importance of modernising the sector to improve production standards and increase exports. He said Pakistan was keen to work with China to develop a stronger livestock value chain and create new opportunities for farmers, exporters and related industries.
Rana Tanveer added that joint initiatives would help improve meat production, processing facilities and export capacity. The two sides discussed measures to increase meat exports from Pakistan and agreed on the need to establish modern slaughterhouses, advanced meat processing units and improved export infrastructure.
Pakistan would also focus on introducing modern technologies, strengthening cold chain systems and developing effective traceability mechanisms to ensure the supply of quality halal meat to the Chinese market.
The Chinese delegation appreciated Pakistan’s livestock potential and expressed interest in expanding cooperation in meat processing, technology transfer and infrastructure development. The delegation said stronger collaboration in the sector could open new avenues for bilateral trade and economic partnership.
The livestock sector remains an important part of Pakistan’s agricultural economy. It contributes significantly to rural employment, income generation, value addition and overall national production.
