ISLAMABAD: Pakistan and Egypt have agreed to strengthen economic cooperation by expanding trade, investment, joint production and technology partnerships, with a focus on building stronger regional value chains.
Federal Minister for Commerce Jam Kamal Khan said Pakistan wanted to transform its longstanding relations with Egypt into a deeper economic partnership based on mutual investment and industrial cooperation. He was speaking at a reception held in Islamabad to mark Egypt’s National Day, where he attended as the chief guest.
The event was attended by ambassadors, high commissioners, senior government officials, members of the diplomatic community and other distinguished guests. Congratulating the Egyptian government and people on their National Day, Jam Kamal said Pakistan attached great importance to its relationship with Egypt, describing it as an important partner in the Arab and Muslim world.
He appreciated Egypt’s support in the health sector, its efforts towards regional peace and its cooperation in facilitating Pakistan’s humanitarian assistance for Gaza. He said the two countries shared a historic relationship that could be further strengthened through greater economic engagement.
The commerce minister said Pakistan and Egypt needed to move beyond traditional trade relations and develop a long-term strategic economic partnership. He said Egypt offered a strong manufacturing and distribution base for African, Arab and Mediterranean markets, while Pakistan provided a major production platform connected with South Asian markets.
Jam Kamal said cooperation between the two countries could help create joint value chains, generate employment opportunities, enhance industrial capacity and increase exports. He welcomed Egyptian investment in Pakistan’s power, real estate, financial services and telecommunications sectors.
