Army chief tells PMA cadets that Pakistan is ‘regaining its place in the world,’ points to warming ties with US and strategic partnership with China.

KAKUL: Field Marshal Asim Munir, Pakistan’s army chief, said on Tuesday that the country expected the ceasefire in Gaza to hold, creating the conditions necessary for humanitarian aid and reconstruction, and allowing Palestinians to “live in peace in their homeland.” Speaking at a passing-out parade at the Pakistan Military Academy, he outlined Pakistan’s recent diplomatic efforts, portraying the nation as a proactive contributor to regional and global peace.

Field Marshal Munir described Pakistan’s interventions in Gaza as “immense efforts to establish peace,” framing them as part of a broader strategy to restore the country’s influence on the international stage. “Pakistan is regaining its place in the world,” he declared, pointing to the country’s role in facilitating dialogue with Iran, which he described as a step toward stabilizing a volatile region.

The army chief also highlighted the importance of Pakistan’s strategic relationships, noting the “historic and cooperative partnership with China” while also welcoming the revival of ties with the United States, which he called “encouraging and a welcome development.” In a notable comment, he praised former US President Donald Trump’s “efforts and strategic leadership” in seeking peace in conflict zones, underscoring Pakistan’s aspiration to be seen as a constructive participant in international diplomacy.

Munir’s address conveyed a foreign policy vision that sought to balance traditional alliances with emerging partnerships, projecting Pakistan as a nation actively shaping regional dynamics. He linked this diplomatic engagement to Pakistan’s longstanding commitment to global peace, including its significant participation in United Nations peacekeeping missions, and framed the military as a pillar supporting these efforts.

Observers noted that the army chief’s remarks reflected a wider narrative of Pakistan asserting itself as a responsible regional power capable of influencing international processes while safeguarding national interests. The speech also served to inspire confidence among the young officers graduating from the academy, linking their entry into military service with the country’s growing stature on the world stage and its active contribution to peace and stability in conflict zones across the region.
