RAWALPINDI: A high-level Somali delegation led by Defence Minister Ambassador Ahmed Moallim Fiqi held talks with Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir at General Headquarters (GHQ) in Rawalpindi on Thursday, focusing on ways to strengthen defence ties between the two countries.
The meeting covered regional security developments, matters of mutual interest and measures to enhance bilateral cooperation in the defence and security sectors. Both sides emphasized the importance of expanding military-to-military relations and increasing capacity-building programs to address shared security challenges.
They said stronger coordination between the armed forces of Pakistan and Somalia could contribute to regional peace and stability. The Somali defence minister appreciated Pakistan’s continued support and acknowledged the professional role of the Pakistan Armed Forces in promoting peace and security.
Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to supporting Somalia in strengthening its security institutions and enhancing capabilities to respond to emerging threats.
The discussions reflected the longstanding relations between Pakistan and Somalia, with defence cooperation remaining a key pillar of bilateral engagement. Both countries have maintained close coordination on security matters and expressed their desire to further expand collaboration.
The visit of the Somali delegation to GHQ was part of continued diplomatic and military interactions aimed at deepening relations between Islamabad and Mogadishu. Officials from both sides expressed confidence that enhanced cooperation would help address common challenges and contribute to regional stability.
