KARACHI: The Pakistan Institute of Labor Education and Research (PILER) organized an awareness session for workers from various textile and garment factories to improve their understanding of social security institutions and labor rights.
The event focused on helping workers learn about social protection, available benefits and the procedures required to access services provided under the social security system. The training session was conducted by Waseem Jamal, Director at the Sindh Employees’ Social Security Institution (SESSI).
Waseem Jamal explained the legal rights available to registered workers and outlined the role of social security in protecting employees and their families. He also discussed the importance of ensuring that workers were properly registered so they could receive the benefits guaranteed under the law.
Participants were given detailed information about social protection mechanisms, eligibility criteria and the process for registration. The session also explained the different benefits available through the institution, including healthcare facilities, financial assistance and other welfare services designed to support workers during illness, injury and other difficult circumstances.
Workers were encouraged to understand these provisions so they could claim their rights without unnecessary delays. The program remained interactive throughout the day. Workers shared questions about workplace issues and the challenges they faced while seeking access to social security services. They also discussed concerns related to registration, documentation and awareness.
The trainer responded to these questions and clarified the procedures, helping participants better understand how to benefit from the existing system and avoid common obstacles. The session highlighted the importance of stronger awareness among industrial workers, many of whom remained unfamiliar with the protections available under labor laws.
