The prime minister said the planned national data center would centralize government data, streamline digital infrastructure and end the costly duplication of data facilities across federal institutions

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif directed the government to accelerate the implementation of Pakistan’s national digital vision, calling for immediate steps to make the newly established central data center, Sky 47, available to all federal institutions in a move aimed at improving public services, reducing costs and strengthening digital governance.
Chairing a review meeting on the implementation of the national integrated digital policy framework in Islamabad on Tuesday, the prime minister said a single national data center would serve as a central repository for government data and eliminate the need for individual institutions to establish separate facilities.
Shehbaz Sharif said the approach would save public resources and improve coordination across government departments. He said the Pakistan Digital Authority was leading a transformative agenda to modernize government services and improve the delivery of civic facilities. He stressed that implementing the national digital vision had become essential to building an integrated and efficient society capable of meeting modern technological demands.
The prime minister praised progress made under the policy’s three main pillars, comprising the digital economy, digital public services and digital urban facilities. He said effective implementation would strengthen Pakistan’s representation at international forums, encourage global partnerships and bring institutional decision-making, governance and transparency closer to international standards.
PM Sharif instructed officials to prioritize the rollout of digital reforms in health, agriculture, utilities, housing and small and medium-sized enterprises so that citizens could benefit from improved services at the earliest opportunity.
He said the government’s long-term objective was to allow people to access a wide range of public services through a single digital identity, including document verification, banking, healthcare, property transfers and other government facilities.
He also directed authorities to convene an early meeting of the National Digital Commission to ensure consultation with provincial governments and other stakeholders before the policy was implemented nationwide.
Officials told the meeting that the National Digital Commission had been established under the Digital Nation Pakistan Act 2025, with the prime minister serving as its chairman and all provincial chief ministers as members.
They said digital reforms were already under way in agriculture, food, health, energy, housing and SMEs, while work had also begun in 14 additional priority sectors. These initiatives were expected to improve governance, increase productivity and support economic growth.
