ISLAMABAD: A delegation led by Jack Chen, Chief Executive Officer of Chinese company FAMSUN, met Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif, who welcomed the delegation and highlighted the growing economic cooperation between Pakistan and China.
The prime minister said Pakistan and China were exemplary friends, with their economic partnerships and longstanding relations continuing to strengthen over time. He said expanding business-to-business cooperation between the two countries would further deepen this friendship.
Shehbaz Sharif welcomed FAMSUN’s plan to transform grain storage centers in Pakistan into modern, state-of-the-art facilities, saying the project would introduce advanced technology to the agriculture sector and promote commercial activities. He stressed that the skills and training of Pakistan’s workforce should be integrated into these projects to maximize their benefits.
Jack Chen thanked the prime minister and the Government of Pakistan for the warm hospitality extended to the delegation. He also referred to his recent meeting with Shehbaz Sharif during the prime minister’s visit to China, saying those discussions had led to his visit to Pakistan, where talks were now underway on feasible projects related to food security.
The FAMSUN chief executive said the company was interested in providing modern storage facilities, technology transfer and training in Pakistan to strengthen the country’s food security sector.
The meeting was informed that FAMSUN would establish a demonstration centre in Pakistan for the development of green silos. Under the initiative, existing storage centres would be converted into modern green silos. A memorandum of understanding has also been signed between FAMSUN and the Green Pakistan Initiative to advance cooperation in the sector.
Federal Minister for National Food Security Rana Tanveer Hussain, Federal Minister for Commerce Jam Kamal Khan, Minister of State for Finance and Railways Bilal Azhar Kayani, Special Assistant Haroon Akhtar and senior government officials attended the meeting. FAMSUN is among China’s leading companies working in the fields of agriculture, animal feed and food processing.
