KARACHI: Karachi Mayor and Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) spokesperson Barrister Murtaza Wahab has dismissed recent criticism from Punjab Information Minister Uzma Bukhari, accusing the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) of becoming unsettled by the prospect of defeat in the upcoming Azad Jammu and Kashmir elections.
Responding to Bukhari’s remarks, Wahab said the postponement of PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari’s public rally in Mirpur was solely due to security concerns and insisted that public enthusiasm for the party remained stronger than ever.
He claimed that, had the rally gone ahead, Mirpur would have witnessed a turnout comparable to the large gatherings recently held in Kashmore and Mirpurkhas. Wahab also predicted that the PML-N would face a similar electoral outcome in Azad Kashmir to the one it experienced in Gilgit-Baltistan.
Highlighting the Sindh government’s record, Wahab said the province had made significant progress in healthcare, transport and infrastructure. He pointed to the National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases (NICVD) as an example of successful public healthcare, saying patients from across Pakistan continue to receive free treatment there.
He urged the PML-N to examine its own performance before criticising others, arguing that the party’s politics had failed to extend beyond Lahore while much of Punjab remained neglected.
Wahab also criticised the federal government for failing to complete the Sukkur–Hyderabad motorway, saying the public was still waiting for answers over the delayed project.
He called on the Punjab government to focus on resolving public issues instead of engaging in political blame games and said Sindh was providing healthcare services that met international standards.
The PPP spokesperson said his party’s politics were rooted in public service, tolerance and welfare rather than division, adding that voters would ultimately judge political parties on their performance, not on accusations. He maintained that the public knew which parties had delivered results and which had relied only on statements.
