KARACHI: Mayor Murtaza Wahab said the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) wanted to improve conditions in the city and provide residents with better public facilities.
Wahab made the remarks after inaugurating the KMC Sports Complex in Landhi, where he spoke to reporters about ongoing development work in Karachi. He said work had started on several roads, while tenders had been issued for other projects.
The mayor thanked Sindh Chief Minister and the provincial local government minister for their support for the city’s development schemes. He said efforts were under way to improve infrastructure and address the needs of residents in different parts of Karachi.
Wahab said people working positively within the system needed to be strengthened so that development work could continue. He said residents of Landhi deserved facilities similar to those available in more developed parts of the city, including Clifton and Defence.
He said the PPP and its leaders faced criticism on a regular basis but continued to listen to their opponents and the public patiently. Wahab said political differences should not prevent development work from moving forward.
The mayor also said he respected Jamaat-i-Islami’s right to engage in politics. However, he criticized the closure of Shahrah-e-Faisal by what he described as a group of 18 to 20 people. He said blocking a major road caused inconvenience to the public and affected the daily movement of citizens.
