SUKKUR: Shah Abdul Latif University (SALU), Khairpur, has hosted the first Provincial Moot Court Competition, bringing together more than 19 teams from across Sindh in a major initiative to strengthen practical legal education.
The two-day competition was organized by M.H. Larik and Associates in collaboration with the Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto School of Law at SALU. The event opened with a ceremony attended by students, faculty members and members of the legal profession.
The participating teams are arguing a fictional case, Arslan Khan versus The State, giving students an opportunity to apply legal theory in a simulated courtroom environment.
SALU Vice-Chancellor Meritorious Professor Dr Yousuf Khushk, who attended the opening ceremony as chief guest, praised the organizers and welcomed the participation of teams from universities and affiliated colleges across the province.
Khushk said moot court competitions were an important part of practical legal education, helping bridge the gap between classroom learning and courtroom practice. Such activities, he said, sharpen students’ legal research, advocacy, critical thinking, drafting and communication skills.
He reaffirmed SALU’s commitment to producing confident, competent and justice-oriented law graduates and expressed hope that the competition would become an annual event, enabling students to compete effectively at national and international levels.
Senior Advocate Manzoor Hussain Larik also addressed the gathering, saying he was proud to organize the competition and acknowledging the vice-chancellor’s support in making the initiative possible.
Those attending included Professor Taj Lashari, Dr Shabana Kausar Jatoi, Dr Ali Raza Lashari, Javed Bhayo, director of the SZAB School of Law, Advocate Muhammad Tariq Mahesar, Advocate Syed Amjad Ali Shah, Advocate Ahsanullah Narejo, Advocate Ihsanullah Butro and Dr Sahib Oad.
