PANJGUR: Security forces killed five terrorists, including a key commander, during an intelligence-based operation in Balochistan, officials said, as a military campaign against armed groups continued in the province.
The operation was carried out in the Sarkani and Chedgi areas of Panjgur under Operation Radd-ul-Fitna-3. Security personnel moved against suspected members of what authorities described as Fitna al-Hindustan after receiving intelligence about their presence in the area.
Five terrorists were killed during the operation. One of those killed was identified as Wazir, described by security officials as a key commander of the group.
Security forces also recovered four motorcycles, machine guns, other heavy weapons and ammunition from the terrorists. The recovered material was taken into custody for further investigation.
Officials said the terrorists had been involved in a range of criminal and terrorist activities in Panjgur. They were accused of carrying out robberies, demanding extortion payments and kidnapping people. Security officials also said the group had targeted local traders and other residents.
The operation was part of continuing intelligence-based efforts aimed at disrupting terrorist networks in Balochistan. Security forces have increased such operations in areas where armed groups have maintained a presence and sought to target their support and supply networks.
Panjgur, which lies close to Pakistan’s border with Iran, has faced security challenges in recent years. Terrorists have carried out attacks and other criminal activities in parts of the district, affecting local communities and businesses.
The latest operation was conducted as security forces continued efforts to identify terrorist hideouts and prevent attacks. Officials said weapons and ammunition recovered from the site would help investigators establish the activities and links of the group.
