KARACHI: Sindh Minister for Food Makhdoom Mehboob-uz-Zaman, marking International Labor Day, said that workers played a pivotal role in the development of any society and that Pakistan’s economy was built on their tireless efforts.
He said May Day was not merely a date on the calendar but a symbol of struggle, sacrifice and the continuing pursuit of rights by the working class, recalling the historic sacrifices of the laborers of Chicago as a reminder of that legacy.
The minister said the Sindh government was taking concrete and practical steps for workers’ welfare, including the implementation of minimum wage laws, provision of social security and healthcare facilities, and measures to ensure safety at workplaces.
He added that hard work, honesty and continuous struggle formed the foundation of a strong and successful society, and said the government was working to ensure that workers received their due rights in a timely and effective manner.
He further said that comprehensive policy-making was underway to address workers’ issues, while strict enforcement of labor laws in industrial and commercial sectors was being ensured.
He said that in line with the vision of Pakistan Peoples Party chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, various programs and reforms were being introduced to empower the labor class. He added that the PPP had historically been the voice of workers and would continue to uphold their rights.
He emphasized that a prosperous worker guaranteed a strong economy and a developed Pakistan, adding that the government remained committed to achieving this objective through all possible measures.
