GHOTKI: Officials say claims of attack on security personnel circulating on social media are false and insist police and Rangers remain safe and on alert.
The Sindh home ministry has rejected reports circulating on social media and through what it described as irresponsible sources claiming casualties among police and Rangers in katcha area of Ghotki, calling the information fabricated, baseless and contrary to facts.
In a statement issued in Karachi, the spokesperson for the Sindh interior minister said police and Rangers deployed in the area were fully alert and that there had been no loss of life. He said coordinated operations to maintain law and order and act against criminal elements in the riverine belt were continuing, adding that all security personnel involved were safe.
The spokesperson said the spread of rumors and false news not only caused unnecessary anxiety among the public but also amounted to a deliberate attempt to undermine the credibility of law enforcement agencies. He urged the public and the media not to rely on unverified information and to trust only official and authentic sources.
He said the authorities were taking serious notice of the circulation of fake and misleading content on social media and that strict legal action was being taken against those responsible. Cases would be registered under relevant laws against elements spreading false information to prevent such irresponsible and malicious actions in the future.
Reaffirming the government’s stance, the spokesperson said the Sindh police and Rangers remained fully committed to maintaining peace and order in the province, protecting the lives and property of citizens and eliminating crime, and would not be deterred by rumours or propaganda.
