KARACHI: Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah approved the launch of a facial recognition-based attendance system for government schools, saying the initiative would strengthen monitoring, improve accountability and support efforts to raise standards in the province’s education sector.
The decision was taken during a meeting of the School Education Department chaired by the chief minister to review the proposed Facial Recognition Attendance Monitoring and Evaluation System, known as FRAMES. Senior officials briefed the meeting on the project’s objectives and its expected role in improving attendance management across schools in Sindh.
Officials said the system had been designed to introduce a more transparent and reliable method of recording attendance. It was expected to reduce irregularities and provide education authorities with accurate, real-time information on attendance patterns in government schools.
Murad Ali Shah said effective monitoring remained essential for improving the quality of education and ensuring that public resources were used efficiently. He said the government had continued to introduce technology-driven reforms to strengthen governance in the education sector and enhance institutional performance.
The meeting was told that the facial recognition system would help education officials monitor attendance more effectively while improving administrative oversight. Authorities were expected to use the data generated through the system to evaluate school performance, identify persistent attendance issues and take timely corrective action where required.
The chief minister said the provincial government remained committed to modernizing public services through the use of technology. He stressed that reforms in the education sector should focus on improving governance as well as learning outcomes for students.
