KARACHI: Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Karachi president Saeed Ghani has said that if the people and elected representatives of Sindh do not want new provinces, then no new provinces should be created in the province.
Speaking at a press conference in Karachi, Ghani said the Senate and Punjab Assembly had passed resolutions calling for the creation of two new provinces. If the people and elected representatives of Punjab wanted new provinces, he said, they should be created there.
Ghani also claimed that the PPP had never come to power through electoral rigging. He alleged that in the 2024 general elections, the PML-N was declared successful in seats where, according to him, it had actually lost. The PPP leader also criticised two Punjab ministers for comparing Singapore with Karachi Port during a recent press conference. He said the ministers did not even realise that the port was a federal responsibility.
“Talking about the port is like presenting a charge sheet against your own government,” Ghani said, according to his remarks. Ghani invited the Punjab ministers to visit Karachi and review the healthcare facilities available in the city. He particularly highlighted the National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases (NICVD), claiming that it had provided more treatment than any other facility in the world.
His comments come amid a renewed political debate over the creation of new administrative provinces and the distribution of powers and resources between the federation and provinces.
