KHAIRPUR: A one-month Sindhi language teaching course organised by the Sindhi Language Authority concluded with a certificate distribution ceremony at the Khairpur Arts Council, where speakers highlighted the importance of preserving and promoting the region’s linguistic and cultural heritage.
The ceremony was chaired by Sindhi Language Authority Chairman Dr Sher Mehrani and attended by prominent poets, writers and cultural figures, including Mukhtiar Malik, former Secretary General of the Sindhi Adabi Sangat Dr Mushtaq Phul, Radio Pakistan Khairpur Station Director Masrat Ali Mangi and poet and trainer Habdar Jagirani.
Addressing the gathering, Dr Sher Mehrani said Sindhi was a guardian of the region’s identity, civilisation, history and cultural traditions. He said the Sindhi Language Authority was taking practical steps to preserve, promote and modernise the language according to contemporary needs.
He described the training programme as an important initiative aimed at helping youth, students and language enthusiasts develop the ability to read, write and speak Sindhi correctly. He appreciated the enthusiasm of participants and urged people to promote the use of Sindhi in homes, educational institutions, offices and daily social life.
Renowned poet Mukhtiar Malik said Sindhi was not only a means of communication but also a symbol of identity, history and civilisation. He praised the Sindhi Language Authority for arranging educational programmes and stressed that writers and scholars had a responsibility to contribute to the growth and promotion of their mother tongue.
Dr Mushtaq Phul said Sindhi was among the world’s oldest and richest languages, with a vast collection of literature, knowledge and cultural traditions. He emphasised that such educational initiatives were essential for keeping younger generations connected with their linguistic roots.
Masrat Ali Mangi highlighted the role of media, particularly Radio Pakistan, in promoting Sindhi language, literature and culture. He said preserving a language was a collective responsibility involving educational institutions, media organisations and society.
Course instructor Habdar Jagirani said Sindhi represented love, identity and cultural heritage. He stressed the need to encourage its use at homes, schools and in wider society.
The ceremony concluded with the distribution of certificates among 30 participants who successfully completed the one-month training course. Speakers expressed hope that similar programmes would continue to strengthen Sindhi language education and research in the future.
