SUKKUR: South Airline has officially launched flight operations from Begum Nusrat Bhutto Airport Sukkur, marking the start of new air services aimed at improving connectivity for passengers and the business community.
The inaugural ceremony was presided over by Sukkur Commissioner Abid Saleem Qureshi, who described the launch as an important step towards expanding air travel facilities in the region.
Speaking at the event, Qureshi said improving transport infrastructure remained a priority for the divisional administration. He also expressed hope that construction of the Hyderabad-Sukkur Motorway would begin soon, adding that the divisional administration had completed its share of the preparatory work and that the remaining work would be carried out by the National Highway Authority.
He said the motorway would significantly improve road links, enabling farmers and traders, particularly from Ghotki, to transport goods to Hyderabad more quickly and efficiently.
The commissioner said South Airline has begun operating flights connecting Sukkur with Panjgur, Bahawalpur, Rahim Yar Khan, Turbat and Gwadar. He noted that the 2022 floods had severely damaged infrastructure in parts of Sindh and Balochistan, and said the new air links would help improve regional connectivity while supporting economic and social ties.
“The launch of these services will not only make travel easier but also strengthen links between communities and improve access to underserved regions,” he said.
Earlier, Kaleemullah Buledi, a representative of South Airline, briefed attendees on the airline’s plans, saying the company aims to revive flight operations at airports across Pakistan where services had previously been suspended.
He added that the airline, in collaboration with the SOS Group, is also working on initiatives related to health, safety and medical facilities, with the Sukkur operation forming part of that broader program.
Welcoming the airline, Airport Manager Naqash Ahmed Baig described the launch as a significant day for Begum Nusrat Bhutto Airport and the region. He said the new service reflected growing confidence in Pakistan’s aviation sector and would provide greater convenience for travelers, businesses and traders.
The ceremony concluded with a cake-cutting to mark the inauguration, after which the airport administration welcomed South Airline’s first flight to land at Sukkur Airport and received arriving passengers.
