SUKKUR: The kick-off meeting for the feasibility study, master planning and detailed design services of the proposed Greenfield Airport in Sukkur was held, formally launching what officials described as a strategically important aviation infrastructure project.
The project is being carried out by the Pakistan Airports Authority in collaboration with an international and local joint venture led by M2P Consulting GmbH as lead consultant, alongside Leit-Werk Limited as the foreign expert partner.
The consortium also includes local firms Indus Associated Consultants and Cosmic Engineering Consultants, bringing together international expertise and local technical experience for the project.
Senior officials from the Pakistan Airports Authority, led by Director General AVM Zeeshan Saeed, attended the meeting along with the deputy director general for works and development, the director of planning and development, and other senior officers.
Representatives from government departments, the regional administration, the business community and aviation stakeholders also took part in the session.
Officials said discussions were held with members of the business community and local administration, who expressed support for the project. A consultative process was also carried out with stakeholders to ensure the project aligned with regional requirements and expectations.
During the meeting, consultants presented a detailed work plan covering the feasibility assessment, master planning and design development stages. The presentation was followed by an interactive discussion in which stakeholders shared input linked to regional development priorities.
The proposed Greenfield Airport in Sukkur is intended to improve regional connectivity, support trade and investment, and encourage tourism and economic growth across upper Sindh and neighbouring areas.
Officials said the project was expected to contribute to socio-economic development and improve accessibility in the region.
The meeting marked the beginning of a major planning phase and an important step towards the development of a modern and sustainable aviation facility in Sukkur.
