SUKKUR: Sukkur Police, in coordination with sensitive agencies and Motorway Police, have foiled a major inter-provincial arms smuggling attempt and seized a large cache of weapons during an operation near Pano Aqil on the M-5 Motorway.
SSP Sukkur Azhar Mughal said the operation resulted in the arrest of two suspects, identified as Saeed Pathan and Obaidullah Pathan, who were allegedly linked to a network involved in illegally transporting weapons across different provinces.
Police recovered a significant quantity of arms from the suspects, including 14 Kalashnikovs, 23 TT pistols, one short gun, a large number of magazines and around 15,000 rounds of ammunition.
SSP Azhar Mughal said the operation was carried out through coordinated planning between Sukkur Police, sensitive agencies and Motorway Police, which helped prevent a major arms smuggling attempt.
He said interrogation of the arrested suspects was underway to gather information about the weapons supply chain, the wider network and other individuals allegedly involved in the illegal trade.
Cases have been registered against the suspects under charges including terrorism, illegal possession of arms and arms smuggling, while the scope of the investigation has been expanded.
The SSP said operations against elements involved in disturbing law and order and arms smuggling networks would continue without discrimination, and those involved would be brought to justice.
