SUKKUR: Transparency International Pakistan (TI-P) has organised a training session aimed at improving understanding of carbon markets, their potential benefits and the safeguards needed to ensure fair and transparent climate action in Pakistan.
Titled “Carbon Markets Decoded”, the session was part of TI-P’s climate bootcamp series and brought together professionals, researchers and students to explore the role of carbon markets in global climate efforts and their relevance for Pakistan.
The training was led by Kashif Ali of Transparency International Pakistan and Syed Bulent Sohail, Managing Partner of Sohail & Partners LLP. Participants were introduced to key concepts including carbon credits, Article 6.4 mechanisms, carbon market structures, project methodologies and monitoring, reporting and verification systems.
Discussions also focused on challenges associated with carbon markets, including weak governance, unequal distribution of benefits, limited community awareness, transparency in project information and the need to ensure that emissions reduction initiatives do not divert attention from Pakistan’s urgent climate adaptation requirements.
Building on its earlier Climate Finance Decoded bootcamp, TI Pakistan highlighted the importance of technical expertise, transparency and local green skills to develop carbon markets that are credible, inclusive and aligned with Pakistan’s climate priorities.
Organisers said strengthening knowledge and awareness among stakeholders would be essential for ensuring that future carbon market initiatives deliver meaningful environmental and social benefits.
