SUKKUR: Transparency International Pakistan (TI-P) and the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Information Commission (KPIC) have agreed to strengthen cooperation to promote transparency, accountability and public access to information across the province.
The understanding was reached during a meeting between a TI-P delegation, led by Chairman Justice (retd) Zia Perwez, Executive Director Kashif Ali and Policy and Research Lead Raima Mehmood, and KP Chief Information Commissioner Nazar Hussain Shah and Information Commissioner Arshad Ahmad.
The meeting focused on the role of the right to information in strengthening good governance, improving public service delivery and encouraging greater public participation in government affairs.
Both sides discussed measures to enhance institutional capacity, raise public awareness of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Right to Information Act and improve compliance by public bodies with proactive disclosure requirements.
The participants also explored opportunities for collaboration in research, policy development, capacity-building programmes and citizen engagement initiatives aimed at promoting transparency, accountability and integrity in the public sector.
Officials emphasised that effective implementation of right-to-information laws was essential for building public trust, strengthening democratic institutions and ensuring greater openness in governance.
Transparency International Pakistan reaffirmed its commitment to working with oversight bodies and public institutions to advance open governance and safeguard citizens’ constitutional right to access public information.
Both organisations agreed to continue cooperation on initiatives designed to improve transparency and support more accountable and responsive public institutions.
